Welcome to Skiddle: Africa Oyé

Few festivals bring a city and its people together quite like Liverpool’s Africa Oyé. An influential powerhouse, we’re extremely proud – and, maybe, just a little bit smug – to welcome this titan of African music and culture as a brand-new event partner on Skiddle.

For more than three decades, the Liverpool institution has created a vibrant meeting point for fans of the community, the music, the food and the art. Established in 1992, the event spawned from the city’s popular Club Corinto nights, seeking to celebrate the richness and diversity of African and diaspora culture. Since then, it has grown into the largest celebration of its kind in the UK, welcoming artists from across Africa, the Caribbean and South America while creating a platform for emerging local talent and community performers.

Unlike other festivals, however, Africa Oyé has much more to offer than its lineup. Its Oyé Village provides an experience built around its diverse audience, music tastes aside, bringing together more than 90 food, drink, arts, crafts and fashion stalls, while the family zone gives audiences of all ages a reason to get hands-on.

The festival’s work extends beyond its annual Sefton Park event, too. The organisation also promotes African and diaspora artists on UK tours, helping bring music from across the globe to audiences nationwide, supporting important opportunities for cultural exchange.

“Partnering with Skiddle is an important step in our journey from being known as a free festival to establishing ourselves as a ticketed event. Their ability to reach audiences that were previously out of reach for us is really exciting, and we can't wait to get started.”

Paul Duhaney, Artistic Director at Africa Oyé

Returning to Sefton Park for its jaw-dropping 35th year on the 19th and 20th June 2027, audiences can expect another weekend of talented international and local live artists, alongside a score of family activities to keep festival-goers of all ages entertained.
