Watford Borough Council has announced contract signings with AEG Presents UK, which will see the renowned global venue and concert operator manage Watford Colosseum when it reopens in 2025. The diary for bookings at the venue has officially opened today.

The Grade II listed building has been closed since December 2020, with refurbishments to develop a brand new stage, a revamped grand entrance, a forum hall on the ground floor and lighting rigs beginning in 2022. Sustainability has also been at the heart of the refurbishments, with modern insulation materials installed to increase the venue’s energy efficiency and help it to align with Watford Borough Council’s sustainability goals.

When completed, the work to improve facilities and preserve the venue’s rich history will provide just under £2 million into the local economy annually, creating new job and volunteer opportunities.

Watford Colosseum will join the Eventim Apollo, The O2, and the recently revamped University of Wolverhampton at The Halls as venues managed by AEG Presents UK.

Speaking about the deal, the Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “This is great news for Watford. AEG Presents UK are globally acclaimed for outstanding venues and live performances. The project not only preserves Watford’s heritage but also creates job opportunities and supports local businesses.”

Steve Homer, CEO of AEG Presents UK, said: “We are honoured to join forces with the council and contribute our expertise to Watford Colosseum’s evolution. AEG Presents UK is committed to creating unforgettable experiences, and with this partnership, we’ll not only bring top-tier entertainment to the area, but we will also be supporting the local community. We look forward to curating an eclectic programme that resonates with Watford’s residents and visitors alike.”
