Grassroots venue Boom Leeds is set to reopen its doors later this month in a brand-new Canalside location on Armley Road, following a community-led effort to save the much-loved space after its closure earlier this year.
Forced to leave its former Millwright Street home in March 2024, Boom’s relocation has been made possible thanks to an outpouring of support, including a crowdfunding campaign and benefit gigs, which secured the future of one of the North’s key independent venues.
The new space offers more than just a live stage. The team has developed a multi-functional venue, incorporating rehearsal rooms, a recording studio, event spaces, and facilities for education and community use. It’s a strategic move designed not only to keep live music alive in Leeds but also to provide a long-term infrastructure for creative development and cultural impact.

Boom’s first show at the new site will take place on Wednesday 21st May, with Leeds hardcore outfit Bodyweb topping the bill, supported by Long Goodbye, imissyoualready, Crowquil, and Monroe. Other confirmed performances include Inhuman Nature on Thursday 22nd May and Brazilian punk legends Ratos de Porão on Friday 30th May – setting a high-energy tone for the venue’s comeback calendar.
Long known as a champion of the UK’s underground punk and hardcore scene, Boom’s return is more than a reopening: it’s a statement of resilience and a nod to the power of grassroots culture. The new location reaffirms its place as an essential live music hub, offering touring artists, promoters and local creatives a renewed platform to connect with audiences in the North.
