The UEFA EURO 2024 is just around the corner. Will England finally bring it home? Are Germany set to become winners in their own country? Is an underdog nation ready to upset the big hitters?
We don’t know. But something we do know is that pints will be poured, songs will be sung and supporters up and down the country will take to fan park events to cheer on the likes of Kane, Bellingham and the rest of the England National Team.
Fan Parks host sporting events – think football, rugby, cricket and Formula 1 – to a large-scale audience. Here, you’ll find giant screens, a great atmosphere, lovely food and drink and music across the evening.
Maybe you’re hosting a fan park for the EUROs. Or, maybe you’re interested in the concept but want to deliver a fresh spin on things. Whatever you’re thinking, our latest article will show you how to level up your fan park event to deliver the best experience possible.
Why are fan park events popular?
The communal factor.
Sport is better with people around us. When you watch a big event with your friends, the emotion is heightened. Plus, let’s face it: having your mates around you is a great way to lift your spirits if the result isn’t what you wanted.
For promoters, fan park events are a way to deliver a large-scale event with a pull. The sporting event does half the work, so you can focus on making the things around the big match as exciting as possible.
If people are already looking for a place to watch the opening England game or the final of the EUROs, for example, why not give them a memorable experience alongside that?

I’m looking to add a bit more to my fan park event, can you help?
Of course, we can.
However, before we get into our ideas on how to level up your fan park events, we wanted to talk a little bit about fan zones.
Now, bear with us. The difference between a fan park and a fan zone is a fine margin, but it’s important. Typically, you’d see a fan zone outside of a stadium or arena, away from the action but still on the grounds of where the sporting event is happening.
Fan zones often feature branded activations, interactive games and entertainment for your attendees to get involved with. You can take inspiration from this and help your fan park become even better.
So, ready to discover how? Keep scrolling to find out more.
Idea 1 – Install some activations
Installing activations at your fan park event can be a great way to engage your attendees. Activations are experiences at an event that can either be installed by an external company or a brand, likely to be interactive games, activities that blend cutting-edge technology with sport and activities that you can only take part in at a specific event.
Idea 2 – Host a competition
Competitions are a great way to get attendees involved with your event. After all, who wouldn’t love watching their home nation or favourite sportsperson take home the win and win something for themselves?
For promoters, hosting a competition at a fan park event opens the door to booking a famous name. Lots of ex-sporting heroes tour the appearance circuit, taking part in everything from talks to hosting, and by booking a reputable name, your event instantly becomes more appealing.
You could have the ex-sportsperson say a few words at the beginning of the event, provide some match analysis and finish off their appearance by announcing the winner of your competition.
For the competition, you could host a simple raffle with the winner being announced at the end of the match.
Idea 3 – Strike up a deal with a sponsor
Earlier, we mentioned how brands can offer activations for your fan park events.
This could be achieved by striking up a partnership or sponsorship with a reputable brand, with the brand providing the activation as part of the deal.
Partnering with a brand in this manner has advantages for both parties. As the promoter, your event gets some unique and fun activations, which could entice attendees to grab a ticket. The brand gets to showcase its efforts at a popular event, giving them authority as a leader in the sports event space.

Before, during and after the event
Whichever route you choose to go down, ensure you use your social media platforms to shout about the activations, competitions and sponsorship deals you have planned for your event.
For example, if you have a brand partnership that involves an activation, shoot a taster video to give your audience a sneak peek of what they can get involved with.
While the event takes place, take plenty of photos and shoot videos. You can use this as promotional content for the next event and any other fan park events you choose to put on.
