November 5th is on its way and event organisers are gearing up for one thing: Bonfire Night.
Now, we know it can be daunting. Logistics, sponsors, attractions and when you’re done with all that, finding a reputable ticketing company to list your event with. And while we can’t help you with the first three, ticketing is our speciality.
So, in the Skiddle offices, we’ve been working tirelessly, finding ways to bring you the knowledge you need this Bonfire Night. The result? The Skiddle Bonfire Night Toolkit. Here, you’ll find information on the best of our tools to use this November, tips on how to put them into practice, and importantly, why they’re worth using.

Sell tickets on your website with our Ticket Widget
Customers want simplicity.
So, you want to make the ticket-buying process as simple as possible for customers. If it’s too complicated, they’ll go somewhere else, and the chance to make crucial sales will be like the wood on a bonfire: well and truly up in smoke.
So, why not try our Ticket Widgets?
They come in two types. Our Listing Widget lets customers view and buy tickets for multiple events on your website. Next, our Ticket Box widget lets customers view and buy tickets for your next event.
You could place the widget on your website homepage and link to that page across social media. Potential attendees will be able to buy tickets in as few clicks as possible, making the process quick, easy and efficient.
But the benefits don’t stop there. Your customers are on your website, so you could create content to keep them there and gain increased traffic. If they’re entertained, they’ll remember and be more likely to return in the future.
Your brand is associated with ease of access and entertaining content, boosting your reputation in the process.
Plus, there is no coding experience needed. Find out how to sell tickets directly to your customers HERE.
Manage queues with RapidScan
Remember Bonfire Night as a kid?
The crackling of the bonfire hitting your nostrils, the bright lights of the fairground dazzling your eyes, sweet candy floss dissolving on your tongue, and, of course, the main event: a dazzling firework display seen by thousands of people.
Now, back to the present.
You’re an event promoter who needs to ensure that thousands of people get through the gates of your Bonfire Night event swiftly and safely. A scanning service is perfect for that.
That’s where we come in.
RapidScan, our ticket-scanning solution, can be used across iOS and Android, letting you scan a ticket per second. You can keep queues orderly, fast-moving and most importantly, safe.
After all, the customer experience begins the moment people queue up, and making sure this is as positive as possible is going to enhance your reputation with attendees, making it more likely they’ll have a great time and leave happy.

Create group tickets in the Skiddle Promotion Centre
Whether it’s parents taking their young children to their first firework display or meeting up with their older children who have since flown the nest, Bonfire Night appeals to all every year. Because after all, nothing embodies wholesome family fun quite like the burning of an effigy representing a 16th-century pyromaniac.
But, aside from being a family and partaking in the ritual torching of Guy Fawkes lookalikes, what do these groups have in common?
They’ll appreciate a good deal.
If you’ve got a family of your own, you’ll understand. Being able to get four tickets for the price of 3 is a boon on the old finances, as the money saved can be put away in the fund for Christmas.
So, why not set up some ticket deals for your customers this year? All you need to do is head to the Skiddle Promotion Centre, decide what you want your offer to be, enter the details and create your ticket.
With ticket deals, you automatically create an incentive for families to buy. It’s a value-for-money purchase and the buying process is streamlined. Families can buy in one click rather than purchasing multiple tickets.
Plus, deals like this encourage last-minute purchases. If a family are looking for an event and see a 4-for-3 deal, they’ll be more likely to buy. You can also make the deal a leading part of your marketing across social media.

Use Discount Codes to help you along the way
Like rainy days in the UK, dips in the sales cycle are inevitable.
Plus, let’s face it: money is tight for everyone these days, so discounts can give customers a reason to buy. The stats back it up, too. Website hosting service Hostinger recently conducted a study and found that 46.8% of people shop online for discounts.
But like rainy weather, it’s about how you prepare. You wouldn’t set off to work in the morning in shorts and a T-shirt when the rain is bouncing off the pavements, would you?
One such way to prepare for sales dips is by holding limited flash sales with discounted tickets.
This creates urgency. After all, people will act fast if there is a deal they can take advantage of. Plus, you can entice those potential attendees who had a look at your event but didn’t buy tickets straight away. Both of these things mean more ticket sales for your event, which can help you when sales are low.
You can make these deals a reality by using our Discount Codes feature in the Promotion Centre. It lets you create single, multi and unlimited use codes at the drop of a hat, which you can then distribute to your customers.

Enable Waiting List and manage customer enquiries
We’ve looked at how to drive sales in a quiet period, but what if you’ve already sold out your event?
Our Waiting List feature can help.
When your event has sold out, customer queries don’t go away. You might be fielding questions left, right and centre from eager customers who want to attend your Bonfire Night event. Now, don’t get us wrong: interest in your event is never a bad thing. It means your marketing and promotion is working.
However, answering customer questions can take up lots of your time, time which could be spent devising marketing strategies or planning future events.
With Waiting List enabled, you can direct your customers to sign up, minimise questions and give them a chance to buy tickets for your event.

What to consider before hosting a Bonfire Night event
Now you’ve got the tools to promote your Bonfire Night event, it’s paramount to understand the rules around organising one.
Before your event, think about the type of fireworks you are using and who is lighting them. Fireworks are divided into 4 categories.
Category 1 – Indoor or close proximity fireworks with minimal safety distances.
Category 2 – Outdoor fireworks with spectator safety distances of at least 8m.
Category 3 – Outdoor fireworks with spectator safety distances of at least 25m.
Category 4 – Fireworks for professional use only.
It’s important to know that these are spectator distances and that distances to firers and structures will differ.
The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) website states the following:
“There is no reason why you should not light a display yourselves provided it only contains fireworks in categories 1, 2 and 3. but remember, category 4 fireworks may only be used by professional firework display operators. In untrained hands, they can be lethal.”
Elsewhere, ensure your fireworks are coming from a reputable seller and have a safety plan. You’ll be able to react to an incident much more effectively with a solid plan in place.
Before the event takes place, clearly discourage attendees from bringing alcohol on site. You can share this via social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook.
Plan and mark out walkways to prevent overcrowding and ensure you have enough stewards who know exactly what their jobs are.
