Olympia Events has announced a £1.3 billion transformation of its historic West Kensington venue, positioning it as a world-class hub for exhibitions, live entertainment, hospitality, and cultural experiences.
According to consultancy Volterra, the redevelopment is projected to contribute over £600 million in Gross Value Added (GVA) each year, establishing Olympia as a key catalyst for culture-led growth and supporting the ambitions of the Mayor of London’s Growth Plan.
Economic Impact & Visitor Growth
The redevelopment is set to deliver a major boost in footfall, spending, and tourism, with projections including:
- 3.5 million direct visitors annually, rising to nearly 10 million with wider footfall
- £256 million in annual event-related spend
- £460 million in total visitor spending across hotels, dining, retail, and transport
- £640 million in projected UK-wide tourism spend from international visitors
What’s Changing?
Covering 14 acres and led by Heatherwick Studio, the redevelopment will introduce:
- Two new hotels: Hyatt Regency and citizenM
- A 4,000-capacity music hall operated by AEG Presents
- A 1,575-seat theatre – London’s largest purpose-built venue in nearly 50 years
- Over 30 restaurants, bars, shops, a gym, creative workspaces, a performing arts school, and enhanced conference facilities
Strategic Vision & Timeline
This transformation goes beyond bricks and mortar – it’s a long-term investment in the UK’s creative economy. With 7,000 on-site jobs and 2,000 more supported through the supply chain, Olympia is set to become a key driver of innovation, commerce, and cultural exchange.
Designed to serve the evolving needs of organisers, performers, and attendees, the venue will reopen in phases from 2025, with full completion, including its new conference centre, expected in 2026.
