Music and Event Fans Invited to Invest In Grassroots Venues

Music Venue Properties (MVP), the scheme set up by the Music Venue Trust (MVT) to save grassroots music venues (GMVs) from closure, has announced a new wave of GMV acquisitions through its latest community share offer.

Launching on May 15th 2025 and closing July 31st 2025, the scheme aims to purchase seven iconic venues across the UK: Esquires (Bedford), The Sugarmill (Stoke-on-Trent), The Joiners (Southampton), The Croft (Bristol), Peggy’s Skylight (Nottingham), The Lubber Fiend (Newcastle), and The Pipeline (Brighton).

The move is part of the Own Our Venues campaign, which seeks to place music venues into community ownership to protect them from the instability of commercial leases. Investments start from £50 and are available via CrowdFunder, with the opportunity for fans, supporters, and industry figures to own shares in the buildings themselves.

Matthew Otridge, Chief Operating Officer of MVP, said: “The key threat to the grassroots music venue (GMV) sector has always been that of property ownership. Over 90% of GMVs are tenants and are often in a vulnerable position when they and their landlords do not share the same goals. Music Venue Properties has shown in just three years that community ownership can secure and preserve venues permanently”.

The first phase of the campaign raised £2.88 million, securing venues including The Snug (Atherton), The Ferret (Preston), Le Pub (Newport), The Bunkhouse (Swansea) and The Booking Hall (Dover).

MVP hopes this second round of investment will continue to secure the future of vital music spaces that serve as launchpads for emerging talent and pillars of local culture. Discover more about the scheme and how to get involved at
