In a historic shift for British music, the BRIT Awards 2026 will be held in Manchester for the first time, breaking a 46-year tradition of hosting the event in London. The move will see Co-op Live arena – the UK’s largest indoor music venue – take centre stage as the new home for the iconic awards show.
The ceremony will take place on Saturday 28th February 2026, with Manchester also confirmed to host the 2027 edition.
Why the BRIT Awards are moving to Manchester in 2026
This landmark decision reflects the Brits’ ambition to modernise the show, broaden its cultural reach, and reconnect with fans and artists across the UK. The move is being led by Sony Music UK, which has taken over the Brit Awards’ operational reins from the BPI in a three-year agreement.
According to organisers, the relocation is designed to “invigorate” the show with a new creative direction and to better reflect the UK’s full musical and cultural landscape.
What the BRIT Awards Manchester 2026 means for the UK music industry
For the UK events industry, this is more than a headline moment – it’s a strategic realignment that unlocks new potential across the North. Key opportunities include:
Major Brand and Sponsorship Potential
With headline sponsor Mastercard continuing its long-standing partnership, 2026 presents a key chance for brands to activate at scale through immersive experiences at Co-op Live.
A Boost for the Northern Creative Economy
The move is expected to increase footfall, drive cultural tourism, and offer greater visibility for local artists, venues, and suppliers.
A Clear Trend Toward Decentralisation
From the MOBOs to the BBC 6 Music Festival, more events are leaving London. The Brit Awards’ move is the strongest sign yet that regional cities are rising as cultural powerhouses.
Enhanced Digital and In-person Fan Experiences
Co-op Live’s state-of-the-art tech and flexible format make it ideal for next-gen event design, live-streaming, and audience engagement.
Opportunity for Event Organisers in Manchester
With Manchester preparing to host one of the biggest nights in British music, now is the time for event organisers, promoters, and brands to explore partnership opportunities, regional collaborations, and on-the-ground activation plans in and around the 2026 ceremony.
Those already operating in the city can position themselves at the centre of the action by organising events around the awards, tapping into the buzz generated by the ceremony and the influx of visitors to Manchester. For others, it’s a valuable chance to break into a thriving music and events ecosystem.
