Whether it’s in iconic grassroots haunts or the most dazzling stadium venues, there isn’t much better than live music.

Here at Skiddle, gigs are one of our specialities. So, if you’ve been thinking about how to organise a gig, you’ve come to the right place.

Maybe you’re a promoter with an eye for talent, keen to showcase the up and coming sounds of your area. Or, you’re in a band already and looking to organise a show to get your name out there.

In today’s article, we’re going to show you everything you need when thinking about how to organise a gig. From finding talent and venues to listing and promoting your event, we’ve got you covered.

Find your artists

No matter the genre, you’ll need artists or bands to make your gig happen.

There are a few ways you can do this. If you’re organising a local showcase, think about the bands and artists who play regularly around the area. Go out to gigs, chat with people and get their contact details. Once you have them, you can begin to get in touch regarding your ideas.

If you’re looking to put on a band with a higher reputation, have a look on the internet for booking details. At this level, you’ll likely deal with managers or booking agents, and the details can usually be found on talent roster websites or social media.

Having the contacts of local bands will help you here, too. You can host the local bands in the support slots of your gig.

Secure a venue

Once you’ve got an idea of the bands you’d like to book, it’s time to secure a venue.

The venue you choose will be relative to the size of the bands you’re booking. So, if you’re booking local, consider pubs and grassroots venues with a lower capacity that have a reputation for hosting this kind of event.

Whichever size venue you’re considering, acoustics, sound quality and safety will play a part. Ideally, you’ll want a venue with great sound relative to the size and budget, as well as a place that will be able to house a certain amount of people safely.

Then, it’s time to contact the venue. Here, you’ll want to make an appealing pitch. Think about why you’re organising this gig and how it can benefit both you and the venue you want to host it at.

List your event with Skiddle

So, you’ve contacted your acts and secured your venue. What’s next? Signing up to Skiddle and listing your event.

Signing up with us is completely free and gives you access to our flagship piece of software, The Skiddle Promotion Centre.

The Promotion Centre puts you in the driving seat. You can list your event, describe it in the words you want, create multiple ticket types, analyse the performance of your tickets and much more.

We don’t make you wait for authorisation, either. You can sign up, list your event and sell tickets within a few hours. Tap the button to register today.

Use our market leading features

The Promotion Centre is packed with market leading features, which you can use to enhance your events.

Take Reps, for example. It lets you bring in people who aren’t part of your team to sell tickets for your event in exchange for cash or rewards. If you live in a student city or town, this is perfect. You’ve got a chance to sell tickets to a market who are new to the area and looking for regular nights out.

Rapidscan helps, too. It’s our scanning service that lets you scan one ticket per second, making safe entry a breeze for all. Plus, it’s free to download on the Google Play Store and App Store.

Promote your event

Here’s the fun part: promoting your event.

Flyering can help you here. Take a day or two out of your schedule and visit record shops, student unions, local bars and food spots to advertise your event.

Social media is where your event can really shine and the key is intriguing content. If you constantly spam your followers with line-up posts and promotional content, they’ll switch off. So, think of ways you can entertain users and convince them that your gig is something they should attend.

We’ve got plenty of content on social media that can give you tips, advice and insights from our experts. Tap the link below to view it.
