Fun for all the family.
It’s a phrase oft used in the events world, but have you ever thought about putting on your own family-oriented event?
Maybe you’ve spotted a niche in your area, something that the families of the town or city you live in could really enjoy. Or, you’re passionate about bringing the same joy you’ve experienced at these events.
Whichever your reason for organising a family event, you’ve come to the right place. It’s not just gigs, club nights and festivals here at Skiddle, and in our latest article, we’re going to show you everything you need to promote an event like this.

Is there a gap in the market?
Think about the family-oriented events that take place in your area. What’s missing? You want to deliver an idea that brings something different, as this is how you’ll drum up interest early on.
Your social circle can help you. If you have a family of your own, great. Consider what you’d like to see from an event like this. If you have friends, siblings or cousins with children, even better. They can lend their thoughts.
Chat with people on Facebook groups and don’t forget: speak to your own children, too. You might not be able to bring the waterpark from last year’s trip to your local park, but your kids will have ideas about the kind of events they’d like to attend.
Indoors v Outdoors
Once you’ve got an idea, it’s time to think about a place to host your family event.
If you’re planning an outdoor event, parks are a great start. They’re big, full of green space and have good transport links. Most families in the area have likely visited them at some point.
This is a huge benefit for all. The park is a place people know, and that familiarity will help attract families to your event. Travel is made easier as parks are central, often within walking distance of where people live.
If your event requires an indoor venue, community centres and youth clubs are a great place to start. Like parks, they already have a footing in the community, so the fact that people know and have visited them will make it more likely they’ll attend your event.

List your event on Skiddle

Signing up with us is completely free and gives you access to our flagship piece of software, The Skiddle Promotion Centre.
The Promotion Centre puts you in the driving seat. You can list your event, describe it in the words you want, create multiple ticket types, analyse the performance of your tickets and much more.
We don’t make you wait for authorisation, either. You can sign up, list your event and sell tickets within a few hours. Tap the button to register today.
Use some of our market leading features
The Promotion Centre is packed with market leading features, which you can use to enhance your events.
Take Event Series, for example. It’s the perfect feature to use if your family event runs every week. With Event Series, all you have to do is list your event once, select when you want it to repeat and let The Promotion Centre populate the dates. Your customers can easily browse those dates in a calendar view.
RapidScan helps, too. It’s our scanning service that lets you scan one ticket per second, making safe entry a breeze for all. Plus, it’s free to download on the Google Play Store and App Store.

Shout about your event
Now, here’s the fun part: telling the world about your event.
When devising marketing plans for any event, the first thing to consider is your target audience. Think about where they spend most of their time and go there.
It could be helpful to do a bit of old-school promotion here. Head to local areas and enquire about putting up posters in the window, get out into the centre and do some flyering. The conversations you have here could interest people in your event.
Facebook ads can help you create audiences to target the right people while engaging ad content can help you attract those people to the event.
We’ve got lots of guides about social media on The Skiddle Promotion Centre Blog, tap the button below to view them.
