The times they are a-changin, and this is especially true for the annual tradition of Freshers Week. September marks the time of year when newly accepted undergraduates fledge the nest and move into their new university residencies, eager to meet new people and explore their surroundings through a week filled with activities and events.
Although traditional club events still rank high on a Freshers list of things to experience, a large percentage of students these days are out to enjoy a different kind of week altogether. Events that, for example, might not revolve so much around alcohol. Recent studies have shown that Gen Zers drink 20% less than Millennials, who also drink less than older generations.
So, what does this all mean for organisers of Freshers Week events? Well, competition is growing, not only among the customary club events but also the more alternative event types growing in popularity, such as comedy showcases, food festivals and film screenings.
But there’s no need to fret. The Skiddle Promotion Centre is stocked full of features, tools and services to help you remain as competitive and as profitable as ever – whether that be through making the cost of pricer tickets more manageable with Payment Plans or PayPal Pay in 3 or by creating incentives to buy tickets using Discount Codes.
If you already know your way around the Skiddle Promotion Centre, jump straight ahead to the first feature on the list below to learn more. If you’ve never used the Promotion Centre, worry not. Before we go any further, here’s a quick primer on what it’s all about.
What is The Skiddle Promotion Centre?
The Skiddle Promotion Centre is the place where you’ll list all your Freshers Week events. Once published, these events will be visible to millions of potential customers via the Skiddle website and the Skiddle app.
Think of it as your go-to event planning assistant. Here, you’ll name and describe your event, choose the genre of your event, set running times and the days over which your event might repeat, if applicable, and confirm your ticket prices. You’ll also find tools to help you analyse sales data in addition to a bunch of nifty features, which we’ll cover in more detail throughout this blog, to assist you with marketing your event and making it more financially viable (Students aren’t exactly known for being cash rich. Just something to bear in mind).
Did we mention, it’s 100% FREE to register, list and sell tickets to your events on Skiddle? Unlike many other ticketing companies out there, we don’t charge you to add your events or make you wait for authorisation. You can sign up, list your event and sell tickets all within a day. What’s more, should you get confused or need answers to any questions while listing your Freshers Week events, we have a wealth or free resources to help you get through – from our catalogue of free written guides on help.promotioncentre.co.uk to our How-to video guides and our dedicated and very knowledgable Account Support team, who are on hand to assist you with any problems you may run into 6 days a week.

Reps
Our Reps feature may as well be tailor made for Freshers Week events.
That’s quite the boast. Yes, we heard it. So, what does it do and why exactly is it so apt for use around this time of year?
In a nutshell, Reps allows people who aren’t part of your team to sell tickets to your events on your behalf, in exchange for cash or rewards set by you. It gives event organisers the opportunity to harness the power of their fans or, in this case, new students in their locale, looking to make some quick cash.
Who better to sell your tickets to your events than students themselves, promoting your events directly to their peers? Not only does the chance of taking extra sales increase but word of mouth about your events or brand gets out among the new student base too, many of whom will be champing at the bit to attend the best events on offer. It’s a win-win situation.
An increased chance of getting people through the doors also means more spend behind the bar, great if you have a deal with your chosen venue to take a certain percentage of bar sales, and attendees who enjoy your events could be come regulars. You could have undergraduates joining you at your events throughout their entire time at university.
Seriously, why wouldn’t you use Reps?

Discount Codes
Our Discount Code feature enables you to create single, multi and unlimited-use codes with ease, offering your customers a concession on the full price of their ticket. Pretty self explanatory. But how exactly do Discount Codes benefit event organisers?
The create a sense of urgency.
Think about shopping for trainers. You’ve been going back and forth on a pair for weeks, wondering whether to pull the trigger. All of a sudden, you see them on sale. You try them on, your phone taps the card machine and off you go: you walk out with another addition to the collection.
We act quickly when something we like is on offer. This applies to events, too. For example, if you post on social media telling your followers that the first 30 people to like your post will receive half-price entry for the next event, your phone will buzz. Students will want to take advantage of that opportunity. Plus, let’s face it: the market is crowded.
A discounted ticket is likely to swing the balance in your favour. And, should you use it wisely, perhaps in the lull between times when you might normally takes sales – such as paydays or days on which a students loan might drop, you’ll increase the number of people through the door.

Event Series
Third on our list is Event Series. With this powerful feature, you can create and manage hundreds of events – known as ‘dates’ – across the calendar year in just minutes. An especially useful tool if you organise an event, such as a Freshers Week club night, at the same time and place every week.
Upon selecting Event Series when listing your event in the Skiddle Promotion centre, simply enter your event details once, select the dates over which your event will repeat, and let the feature handle the rest of the time-consuming tasks for you.
Once your Event Series has been created and published, The Skiddle Promotion Centre will gather all your listings together, making them easier to find. What’s more, should an event in your series sell out, the Promotion Centre will show potential customers dates with tickets still available, increasing the chance of a sale being made.

Re:Sell
We’re past the halfway mark of the article. Made it this far? Congratulations! Hold tight, we’ve got three more excellent and worthy features to highlight to help you during Freshers Week 2024.
Number four on our list is Re:Sell; Skiddle’s official ticket resale platform. This feature provides your customers with a safe and secure place to sell their tickets to other potential attendees of your event, should they no longer be able to attend.
How is this of benefit to me, we hear you ask? Well, Re:Sell protects both you and your customers from fraudulent tickets and ticket touts, who piggyback off your hard work and reap the reward. Your customers can buy with confidence, knowing the ticket they’ve bought on Re:Sell will get them into the event, without being extorted. You see, when tickets are listed on Re:Sell, they can’t be listed for anything higher than the original face value. For the fans, by the fans.
Then there’s the challenge of no shows. Re:Sell helps reduce them significantly by allowing potential attendees to purchase secure tickets if your event sells out. More attendees means more revenue at the bar and more taken on merchandise, among other sales at your events.

Waiting List
Have tickets to your Freshers Week event already sold out? Look at you go!
You’ll be glad to hear that we automatically enable our Waiting List feature when all the tickets to your event have gone. Once enabled, customers can sign up to receive a notification when more tickets become available.
So, what’s the advantage here? Apart from looking super popular, you won’t miss out on any lost revenue. FOMO or the fear of missing is out is real. Every Fresher wants to be at the best party in town so, chances are, if Waiting List is in use, they’ll be fighting among themselves to get their hands on any extra tickets that come up for grabs.

Brand Pages
You made it! We’ve arrived at the end of the list. We’re confident you’re now fully prepared to tackle Freshers Week 2024 and come out with smiles and profits intact.
But before we go, we’ve got one last feature to share with you…
Wouldn’t it be swell if there was a way to group all of your listings together on one neat and tidy page. Imagine how it easy it would be for your customers to browse through all of your upcoming events. Think of all the extra ticket sales!
Yes, we’re listing all the advantages of Brand pages, of course.
Invite your customers to view your entire Freshers Week programme and, while they’re there, prompt them to follow your page. When a new listing is added we’ll send them a notification, so they never miss out on the chance to party and mingle with their fellow students.
Looking for a way to increase the visibility of your listings? Our Brand Pages are also optimisied for search, meaning more students are likely to land on your pages when on the hunt for Freshers Week events in their local area.
