Frank Turner has announced a new partnership with the Music Venue Trust (MVT) to support grassroots music venues during his 2025 UK tour. Through this collaboration, Turner will donate £1 from every ticket sold to help sustain local, independent venues—spaces that have faced unprecedented challenges in recent years.
Taking to social media, Turner expressed his pride in joining forces with the MVT for the April tour. “£1 from every ticket will go towards supporting local independent music venues,” he shared. The MVT, known for championing grassroots venues, has repeatedly warned of a growing crisis in the live music sector, with 2023 marking the worst year on record for venue closures.
This alarming trend saw 16% of grassroots music venues shutting their doors in the past year alone—a sobering statistic Turner said he “would love to say he was surprised by, but I wasn’t.” His long-standing relationship with the MVT includes serving as a patron, performing at the House of Commons for the launch of their 2023 Annual Report, and advocating for a £1 ticket levy at large-scale music events to bolster independent venues.

The grassroots movement has gained traction among high-profile artists, including Coldplay, Enter Shikari, and Sam Fender, who have introduced similar initiatives to support the cause. Turner, however, has used his platform to encourage fans to prioritise indie gigs over arena shows, where, as he candidly said to the NME, “you get charged nine quid for a beer.”
Earlier this year, Turner made headlines by breaking the world record for the most shows performed in 24 hours, playing 15 gigs in 15 different towns—all at independent venues. The effort, in honour of the MVT, also saw tickets sold exclusively through independent record shops, underscoring Turner’s commitment to supporting the foundations of live music.
The MVT recently teamed up with ASM Global to help protect the future of grassroots music venues. Discover more here.
