2024 Business Roundup: Skiddle’s Year in Numbers

2024. What a ride.

Where the ticketing and live event industry is concerned, it was a year of both new challenges and new advancements in tech, sprinkled with a list of positives well worth shouting about.

The events industry as a whole saw a rise in ticket sales and attendance figures, accompanied by an ongoing evolution in consumer preferences, with experience-driven events gaining significant traction. Customers also spent more on tickets in 2024 than in previous years, with revenues from online ticket sales surpassing pre-pandemic levels for the first time. Music fans in the UK spent a whopping £2.1 billion on gig tickets alone.

Elsewhere, the government stepped up and announced its support for grassroots music spaces, accepting proposals for a voluntary levy on stadium and arena tickets to raise funds for independent venues, artists, and promoters. Likewise, some of the biggest acts in music – from Coldplay to Katy Perry – rose to the occasion, sticking their hands in their pockets and making financial pledges to help the sector.

On the downside, Dynamic Pricing took centre stage when one of, if not the world’s greatest rock n roll acts, Oasis announced their return to the stage (for how long, the jury is still out), with consumers airing their grievances across social media platforms due to difficulties acquiring tickets (Yikes). Pricking the attention of MPs in Westminster, discussions regarding dynamic pricing and ticket touting – sadly still a scourge on the events industry in 2025 – began with a 12-week consultation recently being announced to look at addressing touting and unfair pricing practices in live events.

Amidst all the commotion and an ever-evolving landscape, Skiddle stood firm, showing off its ability to navigate such complexities while continuing to deliver a first-rate and seamless experience for event organisers and attendees alike.

The numbers speak volumes. Last year, we delivered exceptional results that highlight our role as a trusted partner to thousands of promoters in the live events sector. Facilitating £163 million in face-value sales – a notable 18% growth from the previous year – our platform supported over 157,000 events and sold an impressive 7.7 million tickets. With 18,000 new accounts and a remarkable 97% promoter retention rate, 92% of which signed multi-year contract renewals, we strengthened our reputation among those in the event community.

And it wasn’t just the event organisers that we continued to attract and impress. We reinforced our ability to connect organisers with their ideal attendees, engaging 2.9 million active app users through 52 million push alerts, and reaching audiences with 63.3 million marketing emails. Our customers were also notably more active on our site in 2024, conducting upwards of 50 million searches for events via our What’s On guide throughout the year.

Here to assist both you and your customers, our dedicated support teams were on hand to provide value and expertise whenever needed, answering and resolving 29,000 calls. It’s plain to see why we’re still the #1 ticketing platform on reviews.io.

Considering all factors, 2024 proved to be yet another stellar year for Skiddle and you – our faithful and committed event partners. With the new year breached, we look excitedly to the next 11 months. Expect even greater efforts from the entirety of the Skiddle team to ensure your listings see the best possible return on investment and that your customers enjoy a first-class experience when purchasing tickets to and attending your events.
