Dover venue The Booking Hall is the fourth venue to be saved by Music Venue Properties.
The venue, which is located in a 165 year old, harbour train station first opened in 2017. Earlier this year, it was put up for sale by the previous owner, with the team attempting to purchase the venue themselves. When they couldn’t secure the funds for a deposit, Music Venue Properties stepped in to ensure the venue’s survival.
The Booking Hall, which holds 280 people, has hosted talent such as DragonForce, Frank Turner, Sugar Hill Gang and Soft Play, as well as providing a space for local acts from Dover and the surrounding areas. The purchase means that The Booking Hall joins The Snug in Atherton, The Ferret in Preston and The Bunkhouse in Swansea on the list of venues now owned by Music Venue Properties.
Music Venue Properties was set up in 2022 as a Charitable Community Benefit Society, aiming to remove venues from commercial ownership, purchase freeholds and rent them back to their current operators. It aims to reduce rents, contribute to insurance and repairs and offer rent breaks in the face of financial difficulties.
Speaking to Music Venue Properties, Stuart Cameron, director of The Booking Hall, said: “To know that the venue is secure for many generations to come is a great relief and definitely something to celebrate. Having MVP as a landlord, one who shares our vision for the venue enables us to plan for the future – both in the short term and long term.”
With the pressures of ownership taken away from venue operators, they can focus on booking acts, improving the venue and help to keep the live music scene in their area intact. Music Venue Properties have identified further venues across the country for purchase.
