The Network of Women in Events (NOWIE) has launched a groundbreaking annual survey to uncover the challenges women face in the events industry. The research aims to gather insights on gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and family planning, driving initiatives for a more equitable sector.

Founded in 2013, NOWIE recently became a Community Interest Company focused on improving opportunities for women at all career stages. Supported by the Events Industry Forum (EIF) and the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), the anonymous survey will shape future policies and support systems to help women thrive professionally.

“We just aren’t seeing enough progress,” said NOWIE Director Cat Kevern. “With our relaunch as a Social Enterprise, we finally have the resources to launch initiatives like the Big Survey to drive real change.”

For a decade, NOWIE has championed gender equality through pay guidelines, storytelling, and mentorship. Kevern highlighted ongoing disparities: “There’s surprisingly little research on women in events, despite them outnumbering men. Broader data shows women earn less, are underrepresented in leadership, and face caregiving burdens.”

The Big Survey will help NOWIE target key issues, attract funding, and advocate for policy changes. NTIA’s Silvana Kill praised the collaboration: “It’s crucial to support diversity and wellbeing in the workforce.” EIF’s Jim Winship added, “Women play a vital role in outdoor events, and understanding their concerns will help create safer, more welcoming environments.”

The survey, fully anonymised, invites women to share workplace experiences on topics like harassment, pay, career growth, and childcare. NOWIE aims to use these insights to build a stronger, fairer industry for all.
