Music Venue Properties (MVP) has proudly welcomed Le Pub in Newport to its growing portfolio of grassroots music venues. This acquisition aligns with MVP’s commitment to preserving cultural landmarks across the UK, ensuring these vital spaces continue to thrive as community hubs for creativity and live music. Le Pub, with its storied history and pivotal role in the local music scene, will now enjoy long-term stability as part of MVP’s ambitious #OwnOurVenues initiative.
First launched in 2022, the #OwnOurVenues project has been likened to a National Trust for Grassroots Music Venues (GMVs). Originally crowdfunded, the initiative has successfully raised nearly £2.8 million through the contributions of over 1,300 individual investors and supporters. Additional funding, including £250,000 from the Community Ownership Fund, has bolstered its efforts, making acquisitions like Le Pub possible.
Le Pub, also referred to as Le Public Space, has been a cornerstone of Newport’s cultural identity since 1992. Operating as a bar, restaurant, and nightclub, it has hosted legendary performances from acts such as Skindred and Kids in Glass Houses. Despite facing significant challenges, including a relocation in the 2000s, Le Pub has remained a vibrant beacon of resilience and creativity in the city. Under MVP’s ownership, the venue’s future is now secure, eliminating the risk of closure and strengthening its role as a community pillar for generations to come.
Samantha Dabb, manager of Le Pub, expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership, stating:
“We are very excited to be part of the Music Venue Properties family of owned venues. Having a landlord who is as passionate about live music as we are will make a massive difference to us and guarantee the venue’s future in Newport.”
Through the #OwnOurVenues initiative, MVP continues to make a significant impact on safeguarding grassroots music venues, ensuring they remain accessible spaces for artists, audiences, and communities to connect and thrive.
