The LIVE Trust has announced a major milestone in its voluntary £1 ticket levy scheme, with more than £500,000 raised to directly support the UK’s grassroots music venues.
The levy, which applies to arena and stadium shows with capacities exceeding 5,000 attendees, was introduced to help channel funding from large-scale events back into the smaller venues that form the bedrock of the live music ecosystem.
All funds generated are being directed into the LIVE Trust’s Pipeline Investment Fund — a grant programme designed to support grassroots venues with critical improvements such as soundproofing, ventilation, lighting upgrades, and other essential operational needs. By addressing these common challenges, the initiative aims to safeguard smaller venues’ viability and help nurture the next generation of talent.
A Growing Industry Commitment
The success of the scheme highlights a significant shift within the industry towards reinvestment and long-term sustainability. As the costs of running independent venues continue to rise — alongside challenges such as property pressures, licensing constraints, and competition from larger operators — this financial support is crucial in keeping vital cultural spaces open and thriving.
By redistributing a small portion of income from the top end of the market, the LIVE Trust’s approach represents a tangible step toward a healthier, more balanced industry — one where success at the stadium level directly supports grassroots growth.

Momentum for Wider Adoption
There is now growing momentum behind the call for broader adoption of the levy across more arenas, stadiums, and major promoters. Industry bodies have praised the LIVE Trust’s leadership, noting that the success of the first £500,000 raised proves that such initiatives can be scaled further without creating significant impact on ticket buyers.
With many independent venues still operating under financial strain, particularly following the pandemic and ongoing economic challenges, sustainable funding models like this are becoming essential to the future of live music.
As conversations around industry responsibility and cultural preservation continue, the LIVE Trust’s £1 levy stands as a leading example of what can be achieved through collaboration, foresight, and a genuine commitment to the entire live music ecosystem.
