Social media event marketing has become a key marketing tool for events. There seems to be more and more competition than ever at the moment which can make it hard to stand out and get your event noticed. Well, if you’re looking to increase your reach, we have helpfully come up with some tips on how to market an event on social media.

Interesting photography

The imagery surrounding your events is one of the first things that people see when visiting your social media pages. Whilst crowd shots are standard, it’s the really unique moments that really jump out to the eye, bright colours, intimate moments. Highlight those moments that mean more.

Build anticipation

Events are spoken about the most in the buildup to the event date on social media. It’s important to cultivate as much of a buzz as possible around your event. Slowly releasing your lineup in stages is a great way to get people talking. The more interactive your announcement is the better, as people are likely to be more excited when involved directly.

You can also share behind the scenes imagery which can help boost conversation, especially if the content gives little hints about what you have planned.

Influencer marketing

You don’t have to go too overboard with influencer marketing but it is a useful channel to get the word out about your event. The most important thing to do is align your event with profiles that appeal directly to the same demographic as your event. You can even throw in a guestlist spot to entice influencers to shout about your event. If placed correctly this can generate a lot of conversation about your event on various social media platforms.

Paid advertising

Paid Advertising can help improve your visibility dramatically and social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have systems for paid advertising that are quite easy to navigate. It helps you reach beyond your organic following and advertise to those who are directly interested in the type of event that you are putting on.

Platform familiarity

It’s important that you consider the strengths of each social media platform when you want to promote your event online. Facebook is useful for event pages, Instagram is all about image-based content, Twitter is good for quick updates and TikTok is about short, snappy video content. You need to figure out which one works best for your demographic, you don’t need to be across all platforms but the more you have, the further you can reach.

Facebook event page

Facebook is one of the strongest and most used forms of social media by event promoters. The events page feature allows you to place all the relevant information about your event in one place as well as allow a place for attendees to be in dialogue with you and other attendees. When people see that their friends are attending events on Facebook, they are often tempted to see what it is. This helps to increase your reach.
