Factory International has announced the return of its Factory Sounds programme, which continues to support Manchester’s thriving music scene by nurturing new creative projects. Eleven successful applicants will each receive £1,000 in financial support to bring their ideas to life, alongside a host of additional benefits, including peer-to-peer support, access to talent development programmes, and networking opportunities.

With no restrictions on the type of projects eligible, Factory Sounds has previously enabled participants to launch music management companies, release EPs and albums, build recording studios, host production workshops, and support artists on tour. The programme is open to music producers, artists, collectives, labels, bands, DJs, and anyone in between who is looking to make their mark on the industry.

Launched during the pandemic to provide vital support for musicians, Factory Sounds has grown into a flagship initiative for Factory International. Alumni include a diverse array of talent, such as Meduulla, Mali Hayes, All Hands on Deck, Dirty Freud, and many more, each of whom has used the platform to further their creative process in the city.

Rivca Burns, Head of Music at Factory International, highlighted the programme’s importance to the city’s cultural ecosystem. “Manchester is buzzing with creative, collaborative, exciting, and hugely talented musicians,” she said. “Through programmes like Factory Sounds, we’re thrilled to continue supporting the growth of this incredible scene.”

Factory International is the organisation behind both the Manchester International Festival and Aviva Studios, a new cultural landmark in the city. In addition to Factory Sounds, the organisation is offering a Factory International Fellowship, which provides six Northern artists with the opportunity to shadow the creation of a major new commission at Aviva Studios. Fellows will receive a financial bursary, tailored mentorship, and hands-on experience developing their artistic vision and critical thinking skills.

Both initiatives underline Factory International’s commitment to fostering creativity and collaboration, ensuring that Manchester remains a hub for innovative music and culture.
