Almost a year since their debut performance at Manchester’s Co-op Live, Elbow have partnered with Co-op Live to donate sound equipment to the Night & Day Café, Matt and Phreds, Aatma, SOUP, Peer Hat and The Castle Hotel, 6 iconic grassroots venues in Manchester
The generous donation, aimed at enhancing the city’s vibrant music landscape, is a direct result of Co-op Live’s commitment to fostering local talent and its close ties with Elbow. Known for its world-leading sound system, Co-op Live has earned praise from figures such as Liam Gallagher, Gary Barlow, Don Henley, and Matt Heafy, making it a fitting partner for this initiative.
The funds will go towards purchasing new PA equipment, instruments, and backline technology, tailored to the specific needs of each venue. The donation aims to strengthen the ongoing legacy of Manchester’s Northern Quarter as a global hub for live music.

Elbow frontman Guy Garvey expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Playing Co-op Live’s opening night will stay with us for a lifetime. When Co-op Live donated funds in our name, it felt natural to extend that support to the Northern Quarter and to venues that have been central to our journey.”
Guy Dunstan, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Co-op Live, added, “Teaming up with Elbow to support the venues that first put Manchester on the map is something truly special.”
Jennifer Smithson, owner of Night & Day Café, shared her appreciation for the initiative, saying, “We’re grateful to Elbow and Co-op Live for strengthening what we offer to artists and fans. Manchester’s sound legacy continues to thrive.”
This donation marks a significant step in Co-op Live’s ongoing commitment to supporting local music and communities.
