Independent festival promoters – if you’re considering a tactical pause this year to come back stronger in 2027, pay attention.
The Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) has relaunched its lauded Fallow Festival Fund, offering guidance, services, and support to help festivals plan a successful hiatus in 2026.
While the sector enjoyed modest growth through 2025, festivals continue to face unprecedented pressures. Rising supply-chain costs, the long-tail effects of Brexit, and the lingering impact of the pandemic have all set 2026 to be another challenging year for independent festivals. In 2024, 78 festivals announced postponements or closures – more than double the previous year – and since 2020, over 200 festivals have unfortunately been lost.
The Fallow Festival Fund exists to turn a strategic pause into a springboard, not a permanent closure. By giving promoters access to expert support and advice, the fund helps festivals return with confidence and a plan that works.
How the fund works
Festivals taking a fallow year in 2026 can access:
- Tailored support from 20+ generous industry partners – including Skiddle
- 12 months of free AIF membership, including resources, training, and networking with supportive peers
Ready to get started?
- View the AIF’s Offer Deck – see the services, consultancy, and product support pledged by the fund’s partners for 2026.
