Public vs Private events

Added: 14th Oct 2014    Category: Getting Started

WHen adding your event, you have the choice of two visibility options:

Public Event

  • An event page will be created
  • The event will be listed on the Skiddle events guide (offering maximum exposure/advertising)
  • The event will be visible on some of our partner websites or apps
  • The event will be shown against the venue page, plus any associated artist pages
  • When visitors search for your event using our keyword search, it will be returned in the results
  • The event will be indexed by Google and may appear in the Google results

We recommend that you set your event to public to benefit from the additional exposure you will receive.

Private event

  • An event page will be created
  • You will need to share the unique event page URL with your customers for them to find the event
  • The event will not be listed on the Skiddle events guide (offering maximum exposure/advertising)
  • The event will not be visible on our partner websites or apps
  • The event will not be shown against the venue page, plus any associated artist pages
  • When visitors search for your event using our keyword search, it will not be returned in the results
  • The event will not be indexed by Google and should not appear in the Google results

Private passworded event

These events are the same as 'private event' above, but when a visitor lands on your event page, they must enter a password which you set. This is an additional layer of protection for your event to ensure only those with the password can see the details and purchase tickets.

Which should I choose?

We recommend setting your event as 'public'. The 'privat' or 'private passworded' options should be used for events where you do not wish to advertise your event to the public - for example a members-only event, a staff party, etc.

Please note, when changing your event visibility, changes can take some time to update. If an event was initially set to 'public' then it may continue to show on partner websites/apps until they next refresh their data, so if you'd like to set up a private event we recommend selecting this option when you first add your event.
